A New Zealand Pioneer in the art of storytelling, Dreamweaver has worked and travelled throughout New Zealand, and in Australia, United Kingdom, Europe, U.S.A, Canada and Japan telling stories, giving workshops, presenting papers, and learning stories.  A trained teacher and Speech Therapist, she spent over 28 years as Young People's Librarian, then Children's Community Services Officer at the Invercargill Public Library.  For her services to children and the community, Dreamweaver was honoured by the New Zealand government, receiving an M.B.E. in 1987.
Dreamweaver offers:
Storytelling, activity sessions and simple puppetry for children in schools, pre-schools, libraries etc.

Background

1976 - travels through UK, USA, Canada & parts of Europe developing skills and sharing own insights

1978 - with Otago University, produced a film on the craft of Storytelling which was sold in 7 countries

1982 - 6 weeks storytelling in Japan

1983 - attended 2nd Pacific Rim Conference on Children's Literature

1986 - presented a paper and told stories at the 3rd Pacific Rim Conference on Children's Literature

1989 - paper published in USA "A sea of Upturned Faces"

         - Toured for the Southern Regional Arts Council

1990 - guest Storyteller at Waitangi on Waitangi Day

         - told at the opening of the Aotea Centre, Auckland

         - Katherine Mansfield World Youth Festival

1991 - contracted by Masterton District Library to revitalise their Children's section.  Established the                E.C.Readin' Summer Reading programmes based in Masterton.
         - received a QEll Arts Council grant to attend the Jonesborough Storytelling Festival in Tennessee.  Toured USA & Canada connecting with storytellers

1992 - organised the first Glistening Waters Storytelling Festival in Masterton, New Zealand 
 - established the New Zealand Guild of Storytelling

1993 - Wanganui Summer School 5-day Storytelling class.
         - video "Folktales with Dreamweaver"

1993-95 and 1997-98 - funded by the Invercargill Licensing Trust, through the Invercargill Branch of the Reading Association, to tell stories and run participatory programmes in local schools for 9-week periods. This programme is still run annually and the current session is in planning for 2008.

1994 - told at the Australian Storytelling Festival

1996 - established Southern Storytellers. In tandem with this programme, Southern Storytellers have run an annual event for students 6,7,& 8 where schools select their best teller in each of those years and send them to a workshop day with us. They then attend a dinner at the Kelvin Hotel with the workshop leaders and adult tellers plus any star tellers we may be able to invite, after which they tell their stories to an invited audience.

1997 - Teller at the Christchurch Festival of Romance

1998 - Waikato Polytechnic Summer School :  week-long class "Everyone a Storyteller"
         - Toured as part of the E.C.Readin' Summer Readin' Programme, lower North Island.
         - Told in 9 libraries over a week
        - Telling on Mercury Television

* I made a Storytelling Video "Folk Stories with Dreamweaver" produced by Rillstone and Associates. Still avalable.

* I have been involved all along with the guild and am currently the secretary.

* I attended Jonesborough Storytelling Festival again when I visited a number of friends in Canada and the USA and travelled with Colleen Sutherland telling down the length of the USA until we reached Tennessee.

* In 2007 I initiated and organised the Under Southern Skies Storytelling Festival here in Invercargill.

* By the time I come to this years Glistening Waters I will have been again to Jonesborough.
